Change Management Workshop (self-paced)

Regular price $79.00

As project managers, most of us know how important it is to make sure that what we deliver is actually useful and used by the people we deliver it for.

That’s where change management comes in.

Have you ever wished someone could give you the secret to dealing with resistance to change?

There isn’t a secret exactly. It’s more a collection of best practices, real-world advice and tried-and-tested strategies for speedy and stress-free change management.

And I’ve gathered them altogether for you.

This is a way to get clarity on how to do change management in the real world, when you have limited resources and you’re doing the role of change manager as well as project manager!

This course gives you:

  • a simple process for doing change management
  • tools and techniques for delivering changes
  • templates and conversation starters to help you plan
  • guidance on where to put your effort to get the most impact.

Here's what's inside.

Session 1: Change management 101

You’ll learn why change management is essential to project success and the differences between change management and project management. We’ll talk about the benefits of reducing resistance to change and how change management really is your secret weapon to having huge impact with your project.

Session 2: Change management process and planning

You’ll learn two different change management approaches: ADKAR and Kotter. I’ll break down the essentials for a practical process you can use at work. We’ll cover how to plan your change engagement.

Session 3: Tools for change management

You’ll learn about tools and techniques for delivering change. We’ll look at how you choose tools to best fit with your project, stakeholders and the organisational maturity of your business.

FAQ

What’s the time commitment?

There are 3 40-minute-ish teaching calls plus 3 30-minute office hours recordings where you can listen to questions brought up by participants in the live workshop.

Who is this course for?

We have a mix of people in my workshops, from experienced project professionals wanting to learn more to share with their colleagues, to people managing their first project.

I use Agile, is this right for me?

Probably not. Change management skills are useful for all environments but my background is in predictive environments (messy ones with iterative tendencies, but not formal Agile). If you work in an Agile team, let's talk about whether this is right for you before you sign up.

What tech do I need to do the course?

You will need a device with an internet browser (phone, tablet, computer etc) and speakers so you can hear the presentation. The templates and downloads are a mixture of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PDF.

Is it right for me?

If you are literally just beginning in project management, or want to get into project management, then it might not be for you, simply because you’ll get more out of it if you are already working in a project environment with a real project to use the skills on.

Can I claim PDUs?

Yes. You will get an attendance certificate. This course is about 3.75 hours of training/mentoring (30-45 minutes, 2 times a week) so you can claim 3.75 PDUs against the Talent Triangle (claim the hours that you spend on the course materials – if you do the assignments you can probably claim more). I am not a PMI R.E.P. but that does not stop you claiming PDUs.

Can I claim the cost through my company?

Yes, if they are prepared to fund it! You will get a receipt you can use for your expense claim.

Note:

This is not a ‘how to use the change control process’ course. We won’t be talking about how to receive, analyse or integrate changes to project schedules, budgets etc. This is the other kind of change management, the way to help stakeholders move from where you are to where you need to be with a coordinated and structured approach, so everyone gets the most they possibly can from what your project delivered.

All the ebooks, templates, checklists and bundles are digital files.

I'm unable to provide technical help, due to the variation between different IT systems.

Training courses are provided via the Teachery platform. You will get an email with your login details. If you do not receive them, please get in touch and let me know - I will make sure you have access to the course materials.

Here are some instructions that may help you access the ebook and template files if you are having trouble.

Are you trying to download on a mobile device like a phone or iPad? Most mobile devices will not let you open a .zip file, or download via a link. Please try to access the files via a desktop/laptop computer.

How to unzip a .zip file:
Zip files are compressed files, so they take up less space when they are being saved and transfered. In order to access the templates inside, you need to unzip the file.
On a laptop or desktop computer:
  • Save the file to your computer.
  • Right click
  • Choose 'Extract all'
  • Select a destination for your files (Browse to where you want them to be saved)
  • Click Extract
  • Navigate to where you saved the files to open them.

If you want to access the files on your mobile device, you can add them to iCloud or Dropbox so they are shared across your devices.

How to read a PDF file:

Your computer may already have Adobe Reader installed on it (most do). On an iPad, you can open a PDF file in iBooks.

If you don't have software on your device that can read a PDF file, pleaase install one. Adobe Reader is the most common software (it's free).

Download it here.

How to find your files:

This has happened to me multiple times: I download something and then can't find it on my computer! Check the Downloads folder (under My Computer). Or use Explorer to search for the name of the file you just downloaded. Sometimes you can also see the file in your browser download history.

Read the terms and licensing related to how you can use the templates and files.
